I just find this real depressing. I was in the supermarket this morning and there’s a whole section of shit for old people to make their lives easier, while making all of us more depressed about inevitably being so old you have to sit down in the shower.

You weren’t there on Schery Ridge when the hunters came… There is no
preparing for THAT.

It’s not called a melt-down Silva…it’s called “blood drunk”, and I
would harness the raging animal inside….while you are off shooting
the female water buffalo! Only shoot the ones WITH HORNS!

I feel like Matt would do something annoying, like insist we go into
the supermarket because he NEEDS to get some pretzel sticks, it would
be infested with zombies and we’d all die.

What I hate

When people walk in front of you on a narrow sidewalk, perfectly spaced out to block you, and you end up being stuck behind them.  They always walk very slow and never turn around, so you’re just kind of walking at a somewhat brisk pace 3 feet behind them trying to find holes to sneak through, and you end up just running in the street to pass them.  Assholes.

Live 2.0, and how its a step towards the future of entertainment.

So I fired up the ol’ 360 the other day to engage in some delicious chainsaw bayonet action with some friends on Gears of War 2, and to my surprise the new XBOX Live from Microsoft was online!  Let me start by saying that I’m streaming a movie right from netflix in crystal clear HD.  Let me also add that my XBOX live has been logged in for like 8 hours now.

I honestly believe this update is the first step to truly creating a total entertainment center.  Blu-Ray?  Whats the point if I can stream stuff already in HD?  Yes , I know our netflix movies are limited at the moment, however to really think that we’re going to be using physical media to entertain ourselves for the next 8 years is absolutely insane.

Ok, lets slow down here.  At the end of the day we’re just getting a very user friendly interface, some added features that have existed on other platforms, and now we have a few neato avatars of ourselves to mess with.  The key here though is how many users are being exposed to this product right now.  Even with it countless flaws, red rings of death, overheating, scratched disc issues, MS has still managed to shove this product down our throat.  I’m not saying thats a bad thing, because I like the way the XBOX tastes.

On the interface, it’s definitely cleaner and smarter.  It feels like I’m using an IPHONE when I surf around LIVE.  Say what you want but a user-friendly and sleek interface makes using anything a lot easier.  By the way, whats the deal with totally ripping off sounds effects from The Legend of Zelda?

Allowing installation of games onto the hard drive is a poor mans solution to the scratched disc problem we all deal with that MS has failed to acknowledge.  Google Xbox scratched disc, and you will see a host of people who’ve had similar issues.  I got so fed up with it I ripped my Xbox open and manually fixed it.  Regardless, It’s nice to be able to pre-install a game and have it load faster.

Netflix can be streamed now.  It’s absolutely flawless and amazing.  Works better than On Demand, and if Netflix expands this library available we’re in good shape to have an awesome library of instant gratification.

Now that I’ve cleared that off the plate I want to return to my main point.  The fact of the matter is that nobody is going to go out and buy a vudu box, or an apple tv, just to watch shows off the Internet.  I’m sorry.  I love those products but they’re not breaking into the living room of…ugh… Joe Six Pack.  Thats the only way I can put it.  Right now I have all my music I’ve ever owned accessible on my XBox, along with videos and photos.

At the end of the day its a prettier interface with some bells and whistles, but mark my words, this is the beginning of the average user starting to realize that DVDs are not the only way to enjoy movies.  Remember when the biggest add on to Nintendo was the light gun?  Now we’re adding even more, even if they’re just 1’s and 0’s.

I’ve been saying this for years, but feel good fun and simple music is sometimes the hardest to make.
